SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Police seized sacks of ammunition from a truck in the northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan and arrested two peopleersons on charge of smuggling on Wednesday, provincial police chief Rahmatullah Turkistani said.
"The smugglers placed more than 100 mortar mines in several bags inside a truck that was carrying bags of ladyfingers and melons from Kunduz to Jawzjan province onward to armed insurgents in Faryab province but fortunately police discovered and seized the contraband," Turkistani told Xinhua.
Two persons have been arrested, the official said, adding that an investigation is underway.
"The arrested persons have admitted that they wanted to take the ammunitions to Taliban militants in Qaisar district of Faryab province," the official said.
