NAIROBI, July 19 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Kenyan media outlets on Wednesday.

-- Ballot papers for next month's polls which are 19 days away arrived in the country on Tuesday evening. The consignment was airlifted from Dubai even as the electoral commission is under pressure to demonstrate that it is well prepared for the polls.

The ballot papers are, however, for the five elective seats, with those for presidential polls yet to be printed due to a court case, which will be determined Thursday. The commission is facing several election-related cases in court as civil society and the opposition seek to push for free and fair polls. (Daily Nation)

-- University lecturers on Tuesday called off their two-week strike after the government agreed to implement a 97 million U.S. dollars salary deal. It is noted that the fear of missing their July salaries and the risk of losing 51 million dollars the government had offered made them call of their strike. (The Standard)

-- Two new opinion polls have shown that Opposition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has dramatically closed the gap between President Uhuru Kenyatta and himself. The polls, however, show none of the candidates would score 50 plus one in first round. (The Star)

-- Kenya's use of expensive diesel-generated electricity has risen to a three-year peak that has left consumers with a huge cost burden. (Business Daily) Enditem
