Presidential applicants reach 30 people in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, July 18 (Xinhua) -- The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kyrgyzstan received documents of 30 people willing to run for the presidency, the CEC said on Tuesday.

Five of them are nominated by the political parties and the others are self-recommended candidates, among whom three are female candidates, including one pensioner, and three are unemployed.

The nomination of candidates will last till Aug. 5 and then those applicants have to register themselves as formal candidates.

To register as candidates, all the applicants need to collect 30,000 signatures of the population in their support and pay electoral deposit in the amount of 1 million soms (about 15,000 U.S. dollars) to the account of the CEC. They also need to pass the test of the Kyrgyz language

Their registration process will last till Sept. 5. The presidential election in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled for Oct. 15.

According to the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan, the president of the country is elected for a six-year term. One person can hold the high office only once in a lifetime. The term of the current President Almazbek Atambayev will end on Dec. 1.
