ISTANBUL, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Record rain on Tuesday wreaked havoc in Turkey's biggest city Istanbul, causing floods and paralyzing traffic.
Turkish media Hurriyet daily said the city experienced the highest rainfall recorded in 32 years.
Some of the residents in the city's outskirts have been rescued by boats as they were stuck in buildings due to the flooding.
Several metro and metrobus stations were flooded, causing delays in the public transportation across the city.
The tramp services were also suspended for a short time.
Eurasia road tunnel, which connects the Asian and European sides of the city under Bosphorus Strait, was temporarily closed to traffic.
The Istanbul Governor's Office urged citizens to leave their vehicles at home where possible, to prevent further road problems, according to Turkish media report.
