India's textile minister gets additional charge of information and broadcasting ministry

NEW DELHI, July 18 (Xinhua) -- India's Textiles Minister Smriti Irani Tuesday assumed the additional charge of information and broadcasting ministry, officials said.

"Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister for Textiles, assumed additional charge as Minister for Information and Broadcasting here today," a government spokesman said.

Information and Broadcasting Ministry, besides Urban Development Ministry fell vacant after ruling Bhartiya Janta Party nominated M Venkaiah Naidu as its candidate for the upcoming country's vice-presidential polls.

Another BJP leader Narendra Singh Tomar was given charge of the Ministry of Urban Development.
