COLOMBO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Tuesday that his government would take new steps within the coming months to address the global climate change.
Speaking in his office in Colombo, Wickremesinghe said the severe drought had begun to hit the world, and it would impact Sri Lanka in the coming months. Therefore, the government has to make important decisions in the coming months to face the situation.
"Prevailing drought is not a phenomenon affecting Sri Lanka only. It is also experienced in India, Bangladesh and a few other countries. It is essential to make clear that not only our country but also other regions of the world are all experiencing changes in global weather patterns," said Wickremesinghe.
