KABUL, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Afghan national police personnel seized chemical substance which has been used in making home-made bombs in the eastern province of Nangarhar, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
"Afghan National Police (ANP) seized 1,400 kg of Ammonium Nitrate, a key component used to make Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which was placed in a truck carrying goods along Jalalabad-Torkham roadway," the ministry said in a statement.
One suspect was arrested in connection with the case and an investigation was underway, according to the statement.
The province bordering Pakistan has been the scene of heavy clashes between security forces and Taliban militants as well as affiliates of the Islamic State (IS) group over the past couple of years.
The Afghan government has banned the use, production, storage and sale of fertilizer Ammonium Nitrate since 2010 after insurgents use it to make IEDs and landmines.
