Australian FM arrives in India on two-day visit

NEW DELHI, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop arrived here Tuesday on a two-day visit aimed at bolstering bilateral relations.

During her stay in the national capital, Bishop will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold extensive talks with her Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj, Defense Minister Arun Jaitley and Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar.

The two countries will also ink the International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement in the presence of Bishop and Swaraj, sources said.

Sources also said that the foreign ministers of the two countries are likely to discuss several issues of mutual interest during their meeting in the national capital, including the sensitive issue of Australian uranium supply to India.

In a statement, Bishop had said that ways to boost defense, security and trade ties will be explored during the visit and that both countries will discuss deepening defense and security relations.

In New Delhi, Australian High Commissioner Harinder Sidhu said that her country was committed to exploring ways to further expand bilateral engagement with India.
