SEOUL, July 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korean prosecutors on Tuesday raided defense firms after President Moon Jae-in ordered the elimination of defense industry corruptions.

Prosecutors and investigators from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office stormed five subcontractors of the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to confiscate computer hard discs, documents, account books and mobile phones, according to local media reports.

The KAI, the country's sole aircraft developer and manufacturer, was suspected of overstating production costs and embezzling company funds.

Prosecutors raided the headquarters and Seoul offices of the KAI last week.

The investigation into the KAI was widely expected to become a starting point of the overall probe into corruptions in the defense industry.

President Moon said at a regular meeting with his top aides Monday that the defense industry corruption was "an act benefiting the enemy" which threatened national security, vowing to eliminate the defense corruption.

Moon ordered the restoration of the government-wide anti-corruption committee meeting that was first introduced in 2004.

Separately, a meeting to discuss how to root out defense corruptions would be held later in the day, with director general-level officials from nine inspection agencies, including the Board of Audit and Inspection, in attendance.
