Belarus' GDP grows 1 percent in first half of 2017

MINSK, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Belarus' gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 1 percent year on year in the first half of the year, the National Statistical Committee of Belarus said on Monday.

Compared with the same period of the previous year, the volume of industrial production in January-June 2017 increased by 6.1 percent, and the volume of agricultural production decreased by 0.8 percent, the official statistics said.

Earlier, Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky summarized the work of the Belarusian economy for the first half of 2017, showing the good results of the industrial sector and a slight decline in agricultural production due to weather conditions.

The Belarusian government expects to increase its GDP by 1.7 percent at the end of the year.

In 2016, Belarus' GDP declined by 2.6 percent.
