HOUSTON, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The 2017 Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant Southern United States was held late Saturday in Houston, southeast of the southern U.S. state of Texas, with the participation of nine contestants, among which two fair ladies would enter the Americas Finals.

For the first time as an independent devision this year, Houston witnessed the nine beautiful girls competing each other with their beauty in costume performance, onstage question and talent show.

Sun Xiaoying, undergraduate of Geophysics in the University of Houston, and Yang Jingkun, graduate of Film Creative Production in the University of Dallas, stood out in the competition.

"It provided a platform to show the beauty of women's youth, and the two months of intensive training equipped me with a strong will and firm qualification," said Yang Jingkun.

Through this competition, contestants improved their Chinese, deepened their understanding of Chinese culture, and saw a more beautiful, more plentiful, more confident and more outgoing person in themselves, said Wang Liyuan, chairwoman of the contest.

Organized by Phoenix TV, a Hong Kong-based Chinese television broadcaster, Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant is known as one of the most attractive beauty events among Chinese worldwide since its launch in 2003.

The Americas Finals will be held next month, and winners would be invited to take part in the World Finals to be held in Guangzhou City of south China's Guangdong Province by the end of this October.
