HANOI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Luxury car sales in Vietnam stood at 4,500 units in the first half of this year, down 14 percent on-year, partly due to higher special consumption tax, local media reported on Monday.

Sales of Lexus cars fell by 60 percent to 480 units between January and June, while those of Audi vehicles declined remarkably to over 300 units, online newspaper Vietnamnet cited auto firms' data as reporting.

Vietnam's total automobile sales in the first half of this year increased 1 percent year-on-year to 125,487 units, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association.

Meanwhile, Vietnam spent nearly 2.7 billion U.S. dollars importing 51,000 completely-built automobiles of various kinds, and components for assembly, down 7.5 percent in value, according to the country's General Statistics Office.
