CAIRO, July 15 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian top prosecution said on Saturday that the motives behind the Red Sea resort stabbing that killed two German tourists are still unclear, official MENA news agency reported.

Now in custody, the 28-year-old assailant attacked a beach in the Red Sea resort city of Hurghada on Friday, killing two German women and wounding four others, including two from Armenia and one from the Czech Republic according to the authorities in these countries.

"Until now, no specific description of the attack is certain, whether it is an individual act, a criminal act, a terrorist act or others," the Egyptian Supreme State Security Prosecution said in a statement quoted by MENA.

A similar stabbing attack by two assailants took place in Hurghada in January 2016, wounding three tourists.

Hurghada is one of Egypt's most popular beach resorts for Western tourists.
