JAKARTA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government has set a goal of bagging more than 47 gold medals at the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from Aug. 19 to 31, a government minister said here on Friday.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Affairs Puan Maharani said that the target was set after the government conducted a review of the number of sports that could potentially contribute gold medals for Indonesia.

The minister also said that the target was better than the achievement of the Indonesian athletes at the previous SEA Games in Singapore in 2015, during which a total of 47 gold medals were secured by the Indonesian contingent.

"All preparation has been undertaken and we are confident that we can reach the best result. We expect Indonesia's position will be better than that in the previous SEA Games," she said.

A total of 534 Indonesian athletes will vie in the regional sporting event in Kuala Lumpur, said Puan.

Indonesian Youth and Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi disclosed that all the athletes are very enthusiastic to compete in the SEA Games and added that he was upbeat about Indonesia's medal prospect.

"We are optimistic that we can get a better achievement compared with that in the previous SEA Games in Singapore," Nahrawi said after the meeting. Enditem
