RIO DE JANEIRO, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Peru international striker Paolo Guerrero could be the latest high-profile South American player to join the Chinese Super League.

According to Brazil's Globo newspaper, Beijing Guoan are willing to pay 25 million U.S. dollars to sign the 33-year-old from Rio de Janeiro giants Flamengo.

It added that Flamengo are loath to sell the former Bayern Munich forward and have offered him an improved contract with a 30 million-U.S. dollar release clause.

Guerrero, who is said to be currently earning 250,000 U.S. dollars a month, has scored 39 goals in 89 appearances for Flamengo since joining the club from Corinthians in 2015.

He has been capped 81 times for Peru, scoring 32 goals.

Among South Americans to have signed with Chinese Super League clubs in the past two years are Carlos Tevez, Oscar, Ramires and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
