VLADIVOSTOK, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Eastern Military District (EMD) held large-scale drills within firing range of the Far Eastern region and the federal subject of Zabaikalsky Krai, its press service said Thursday in a statement.

"During the practical exercises, grenadiers will learn how to conduct reconnaissance, how to set the aim and fire various targets in difficult weather conditions, including a strong side wind," the statement said.

In addition, the servicemen also conducted an exercise on destroying enemy ground troops and snipers, the statement added.

Over 2,000 grenadiers were involved in the drills within firing range of Russia's EMD, including the Republic of Buryatia, the Khabarovsk Krai (province), the Primorsky Krai, the Zabaikalsky Krai and the Sakhalin Oblast (region).

The Eastern Military District is one of four operational strategic commands of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Headquartered in the Far East city of Khabarovsk, the EMD is in charge of all military affairs in the Zabaikalsky Krai and Far East Region.
