NICOSIA, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Cyprus' league champions APOEL made a successful kickoff in the European Champions League qualifying round by securing a narrow 1-0 home win over Luxembourg's F91 Dedelange champions in Nicosia on Wednesday.

The game was the first leg of the second qualifying round.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 71st minute by Facundo Bertolio.

Despite the win, APOEL's players were booed by their fans, as they were lucky to escape a humiliating defeat.

APOEL lacked their usual luster as the team are still under construction with several freshly acquired star players yet to be fit enough to play.
