MADRID, July 11 (Xinhua) -- One person was taken to hospital after suffering from a blow on the head following the fifth traditional running of the bulls at the San Fermin fiestas in the city of Pamplona, north Spain, on Tuesday.

The bulls from the Jandilla breeders which took part in Tuesday's running along the 875 meters from the holding pens to the bullring in the city, have a reputation for being especially dangerous, but produced a rapid run, or "encierro" as it is known in Spanish, taking just two minutes and 18 seconds to cover the distance.

In the last two encierros, none of the hundreds of people running alongside the bulls was gored, with just one person suffering a head injury as the result of a fall.

The San Fermin fiestas see the population of Pamplona grow fourfold during their celebration.

This year's fiesta is being watched over by 3,500 police to protect against possible terror attacks and also sexual assaults.
