China has 205 mln cars

BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- In the first half of 2017, 9.38 million new cars were registered in China, taking car population to 205 million, according to the Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday.

By the end of June this year, China had 328 million car drivers, said the ministry's traffic management bureau.

The number of motor vehicles has reached 304 million and that of all motor vehicle drivers was 371 million, as of the end of June 2017, it said.

According to the bureau, 49 cities have more than one million cars each and 23 cities have more than two million cars each. Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Suzhou each have car population exceeding three million.

China has 168 million small cars and the number of trucks has reached 22.7 million.

A total of 16 provincial-level regions each have more than 10 million motor vehicle drivers, with Guangdong, Henan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan and Zhejiang having more 20 million each.
