ADDIS ABABA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Landslide and above average rainfall killed three people in Ethiopia's countryside, the Ethiopian State News Agency reported on Monday.

They died in two tragic incidents late on Sunday in two different districts of Ethiopia's East Shoa zone, Oromia regional state. Two men were killed in a landslide in a sand digging area and another woman died as her house collapsed in rain while she was inside, it was reported.

The tragedies occurred amid the Ethiopian Meteorology Agency's latest warning over the prospect of above-average rainfall with a probable thunderstorm.

The latest alert by the agency concerning an above-average rainfall is the second in a month as the East African country encountered a powerful moisturized wind approaching the country after crossing the equator.

With Ethiopia's major rainy season approaching, the announcement also revealed that the above-average rainfall could be accompanied with thunderstorm and unexpected rainfall, threatening some cereal producing areas in the country.

Despite safety concerns, the rainfall is said to be a good turn to Ethiopia as parts of the country is battling with the ongoing drought.
