LAMU, Kenya, July 6 (Xinhua) -- A Kenyan police officer has been found alive after he went missing during Al-Shabaab attack in Pandanguo area in the Coastal town of Lamu on Wednesday.
Local police officers said the missing officer managed to trace his way back to the station on Thursday morning.
Three police officers were killed while another was seriously injured and air lifted to Manda military hospital for treatment.
Coast Regional police commander Akello Odhiambo says more 200 heavily Al-Shabaab members raided the camp that had 19 police officers and set it a blaze after the destroyed Safaricom mast.
The Kenya Defence Forces have also recovered the police vehicle that had been commandeered by the militants.
The Toyota Landcruiser was recovered by soldiers who were part of a contingent deployed to pursue the militants on Wednesday evening.
Odhiambo said security agents are on higher to avert any possible attacks in within the Lamu County. Police says several militants were killed during the seven hour gunfight by both KDF and police officers who responded swiftly.
The Al-Shabaab attacks have gone down drastically for almost four years in the coastal region since the 2014 Mpeketoni terrorist attacks where more than 100 people were killed.
Pandanguo village was also attacked after militants stormed a police station and killed at least four security agents.
Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa says they have deployed more security agents to the Boni forest. Marwa said the government is contemplating bombing the forest to flash out the Al-Qaida linked terror group.
The government launched Operation Linda Boni in 2015 to flush out Al-Shabaab from the forest.
