HOUSTON, July 5 (Xinhua) -- A collection up for auction at Sotheby's in New York City later this month includes a lunar sample bag, an Apollo 11 artifacts, local media reported Wednesday.

The July 20 "Space Exploration" sale is the first of its kind for Sotheby's since a Russian space history sale in two decades ago.

The 173-lot sale coincides with the 48th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing mission. There are items dating back to 1855, including a photograph of the moon, more than 100 years before man stepped foot there, said the report.

The lunar sample return bag, which flew on Apollo 11, was used by Neil Armstrong on the moon and still features dust from it on the inside. That item could go for up to 4 million U.S. dollars, according to Sotheby's.
