MOSCOW, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday dismissed attempts to justify any military solution to the Korean Peninsula issue as "unacceptable."

At a media session following talks with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Lavrov said the statement on advancing joint approaches to the Korean Peninsula crisis signed by Russia and China on Tuesday during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping is a "comprehensive initiative," which stresses the need for the full implementation of the resolutions of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

"These resolutions not only contain a demand to stop the nuclear missile tests on the part of the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), but also state the need for resuming peace talks and finding a purely political-diplomatic solution for the current situation on the Korean Peninsula," Lavrov said.

"For Russia and China, it is perfectly clear that any attempt to justify a military decision, using UN Security Council resolutions as a pretext, is unacceptable, which will lead to unpredictable consequences in the region," he said.

He added that attempts to economically stifle the DPRK are also unacceptable.

According to the minister, the Russia-China joint initiative will be presented in detail on Wednesday at the UN Security Council, which will discuss the current state of the implementation of previous resolutions.
