MOSCOW, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Russian strategic Tu-95 missile carriers struck terrorist targets in Syria with latest Kh-101 cruise missiles from a distance of around 1,000 km, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
As a result of the attack, three large stockpiles of weapons and ammunition were destroyed, as well as a terrorist command post near the city of Aqerbat, on the border of provinces of Hama and Homs, it said in a statement.
After the successful completion of the combat mission, all Russian aircraft returned to their airfields on the territory of Russia.
The Kh-101 is the latest Russian strategic air-launched cruise missile, manufactured using modern technologies to reduce radar visibility. The target range is up to 4,500 km.
This type of missile can be equipped with a nuclear warhead, the ministry said.
