RABAT, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The Climate Investment Funds' Clean Technology Fund has approved a 25 million U.S. dollars loan to finance a solar power project in the Moroccan city of Midelt, local media reported Wednesday.

The Moroccan daily Le Matin said the first phase of Morocco's NOOR Midelt consists of a hybrid Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and Photovoltaic (PV) project with a total capacity of 600-800 MW.

The project will be carried out based on a public-private partnership between the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) and private sector sponsors, the same source pointed out.

In June, MASEN announced that five consortia had been shortlisted to participate in the request for proposals process of the first phase of the Noor Midelt project, namely ACWA Power Consortium, EDF Energies Nouvelles Consortium, ENGIE Consortium, Innogy SE Consortium and JGC Consortium, it noted.

This project is part of Morocco's ambitious plan to generate 42 percent of its electricity needs through renewable energy by 2020 and 52 percent by 2030.
