In its report on mortality causes for year 2016, INSTAT said that the number of deaths caused by heart diseases registered a 4.2 percent increase, occupying 52 percent of the total.

Heart diseases deaths are followed by deaths caused by tumors, which are registering a frightening growth in the country, accounting for 16 percent of the total, an increase of 2 percent on year, INSTAT experts said in the report.

According to these figures, last year, the number of deaths was 213,888 with an average rate of 74.3 per 10,000 residents. 52.8 percent of them were men and 47.2 percent women.

About 87.4 percent of deaths were due to natural causes, while 2.1 percent caused by road accidents and 1.1 percent caused by suicides, report showed.
