SYDNEY, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Innovation took center stage at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) on Tuesday as a new magazine was launched dedicated to sharing the stories of their research, with the successful Torch program featured throughout.
The Torch program is an innovation partnership between China's Ministry of Science and Technology and UNSW, and is housed on campus at the Torch Innovation Precinct of the university at the Randwick campus.
At the launch event on Tuesday, Dean of Engineering Mark Hoffman told Xinhua that the Torch program is one of the "most exciting and innovative" research relationships that the university has ever engaged during his time there.
"Why it is so special, is that we have developed a partnership with the largest, fastest growing economy in the world (China), and we are actually having our research exchanging with that economy," Hoffman said.
"We realize that we are in a global environment, and being with one of the most exciting countries, and economies such as China through the Torch program enables us to get that research out."
"We see ourselves as a research intensive university and we do a lot of great research, and quite a bit of it is in the magazine. What is really important for us is that people know about the research that we do," Hoffman said.
The initial issue of the magazine profiled some of the great innovation success stories from UNSW, such as that of Shi Zhengrong, former PhD student and founder of China's Suntech Power, and in the process becoming the world's first "solar billionaire."
The Torch program was unveiled in early 2016.
