DHAKA, July 4 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and 35 others injured when a boiler of a garment factory at Gazipur on the outskirts of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, went off on Monday night, officials said.

Gazipur Additional Superintendent of Police Russell Sheikh told Xinhua that "eight bodies have been kept at the mortuary of a hospital in Gazipur."

According to the official, the boiler explosion took place at around 8:00 p.m. local time at Multifabs Ltd, causing a devastating fire that swept through the factory building for hours.

One more person died of his injuries in a hospital in Dhaka, said Bacchu Mia, a doctor at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Sheikh also said at least 35 people were injured in the explosion, and they were rushed to different local hospitals.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
