KABUL, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan government has welcomed the new pledge of NATO to continue supporting the country, said a statement from the Defense Ministry released here on Saturday.

"NATO's commitment to continue its support to Afghanistan and our security forces is very important to implementing Defense Ministry's four years security roadmap," Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Dawlat Waziri said in the statement. However, he didn't reveal the details of the four years security roadmap chalked out by the ministry.

According to the statement of the Afghan Defense Ministry, NATO member states and allied countries in NATO's Defense Ministers meeting on June 29 pledged their continued support to Afghan security forces with the objective to stabilize peace and security in the country.

Presently more than 13,000-strong foreign forces with more than 8,000 of them Americans within the framework of NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission are stationed in Afghanistan.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in the recently concluded meeting in Brussels that 15 nations had pledged to contribute more troops to Afghanistan.

Dawlat Waziri said that sending more troops of NATO would help Afghan security forces to better implement the goal for achieving lasting peace in security in the militancy-plagued country.
