Turkey bans energy drink sales for people under age of 18

ANKARA, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Turkish government has banned sale of energy drinks for those under age of 18, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Friday.

According to an announcement released by Turkish Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry, sports facilities, school cafeterias, and hospitals are not allowed to supply energy drinks or advertise them.

Advertisements of energy drinks in public spaces will also be prohibited in direct and indirect ways.

The announcement said that energy drinks should be sold with tag warnings like "it should not be consumed together with alcohol, or mixed with it," or "the consumption of more than 500 milligrams of it per day is not recommended."

It will also be forbided in such products from having more than 150 milligrams of caffeine, inositol with more than 100 milligrams, glucuronolactone with more than 20 milligrams, and taurine with more than 800 milligrams.

However, the ministry does not impose a ban on sports drinks.
