PHNOM PENH, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The Appeal Court of Cambodia on Thursday upheld the decision of a lower court to sentence former opposition senator Hong Sok Hour to seven years in prison for forgery and incitement, according to a verdict.

"The Appeal Court decides to uphold the Phnom Penh Municipal Court's verdict on November 7, 2016," Presiding Judge Seng Sivutha pronounced the ruling after a two-hour hearing.

Sok Hour, 60, is a former senator of the Sam Rainsy Party that merged with the Human Rights Party in late 2012 to form a major opposition party called Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).

He was caught red-handed in August 2015 in Phnom Penh after posting to Facebook a fake version of a border treaty signed between Cambodia and Vietnam in 1979.

On November 7 last year, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Sok Hour to seven years in prison on the charges of falsifying a public document, using the falsified document, and inciting chaos to social security.

Also, in October last year, CNRP's ex-lawmaker Um Sam An was sentenced to two and a half years in jail for posting messages on Facebook accusing the Cambodian government of using fake border map with Vietnam.
