BISHKEK, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz security officers have detained a group of suspected terrorists who were planning to launch a series of terrorist attacks near Kyrgyz borders, the State Committee for National Security reported Tuesday.
The four members detained belong to an international terrorist organization, according to the report. Upon arrest, they were planning to use improvised explosive devices and firearms in the border areas of Kyrgyzstan to destabilize the country's social and political situation, the committee said.
A criminal case has been filed and the four members are currently in jail, it said.
Kyrgyz Security Council Secretary Temir Zhumakadyrov recently declared that Kyrgyzstan had successfully foiled 17 terrorist attacks in 2016.
Since the beginning of 2017, several terrorist suspects have been detained, and a large number of weapons and improvised explosive devices seized, he added.
