ABUJA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-three Nigerians arrived the country's Lagos State on Tuesday following their repatriation by the Spanish government, a police spokesman said.
The deportees, including 21 males and two females were sent back to the West African country for committing various crimes, in addition to drug-related offenses, according to Joseph Alabi, a spokesman for the police in Lagos State.
Nine of the deportees were sent back home for drug-related offenses, he said.
The deportation came barely five days after 34 Nigerians were sent home from six European countries for committing immigration-related offenses.
The European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, and Switzerland, jointly repatriated the Nigerians on June 22.
Alabi told reporters the deportees were received by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, the police, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Those who were deported for drug-related offenses were handed over to the anti-narcotics police, he added.
