Tripoli, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Libya's UN-backed government in Tripoli on Tuesday urged Saudi Arabia to investigate the arrest of two Libyan nationals at Jeddah airport.

In a press statement, the Libyan foreign ministry said:"We are continuing to follow up the arrest of two Libyan nationals at Jeddah airport in Saudi Arabia on their way back home after performing Umrah rituals on Saturday. The ministry is in direct contact with the Saudi authorities to find out the background of this arrest."

Local Libyan media said that Saudi authorities arrested two Libyan security officials, Mahmoud Bin-Rajab and Mohammed Hussein al-Khadrawi.

Their arrest is said to be based on a complaint by the eastern-based interior ministry on suspicion of involvement in the kidnapping of foreign diplomats in Tripoli in 2014.
