S. African stocks close slightly weaker Monday

JOHANNESBURG, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Share prices on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) closed slightly weaker on Monday.

The all share index closed 0.42 percent weaker at 51,288.71 points, the top 40 index traded 0.53 percent down at 45,113.21 points.

Gold and platinum miners declined 1.68 percent and 1.76 percent respectively. Resources were down 1.2 percent.

Miners were pulled down by the strong South Africa's rand and subdued commodity prices.

Sibanye Gold dropped 2.78 percent to R15.75 and Impala Platinum lost 1.27 percent to R35.05.

AngloGold Ashanti lost 2.03 percent to R134.32, Gold Fields lost 2.68 percent to R45.42 and Sibanye was down 0.49 percent to R16.12. Gold was down 0.95 percent to 1244.11 U.S. dollar an ounce and platinum lost 0.9 percent to 916.21 dollars an ounce.

Assore traded 3.44 percent to R173, while Medicinic lost 1.13 percent to R124.2.

Standard Bank made a strong run among the banks and traded 2.45 percent to R143.8, and Barclays Africa gained 1.3 percent to R146.12. FirstRand was 0.8 percent higher at R48.06. Old Mutual lost 0.82 percent to R32.53. Enditem
