NAIROBI, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's tourism body said on Monday that it has positioned the country as a premier wedding and honeymoon destination in the region.
Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) said it showcased Kenya's potential as a honeymoon destination at the Bride and Groom Expo, which was hosted by the Vision Group Uganda that ended in Kampala on Sunday.
KTB CEO Betty Radier said Uganda is currently the number one market in Africa into Kenya and number 4 globally, having recorded a 75 percent increase from the same time last year.
"We are happy that the integrated approach to grow the market through campaigns, use of influencers like Eddy Kenzo and joint initiatives is bearing fruit and want to take advantage of platforms that keep Kenya top of mind for Ugandans," Radier said in a statement issued in Nairobi.
She said KTB partnered with the Expo organizers to leverage on this vantage positioning with a view of growing the number of visitors from Uganda into Kenya.
KTB said exclusive packages for honeymooners and wedding events have been developed to accommodate varied clientele visiting different parts of the country.
The expo attracted over 8,000 visitors through the three days and presented visitors an opportunity to visit the Magical Kenya stand where they sampled tastes of Kenya's culture.
This was implemented through activities such as henna painting which is popularly used on brides in the coastal areas, play and win where visitors got an opportunity to play and win various branded gifts. Culture displays through interactions with the Maasai cultural ambassadors also attracted many visitors.
Various properties supported the KTB through availing honeymoon offers which were also included in the website. These properties included The Sands Kenya, Swahili Beach Hotel, Pride Inn paradise Beach resort and the Hilton Nairobi.
