ULAN BATOR, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Preparations for Mongolia's upcoming presidential election have fully completed, said the head of the country's election commission on Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference, Chairman of the Mongolian General Election Commission Choizon Sodnomtseren said 1.978 million people have registered to vote in Monday's election.

"Over 25,000 officials will work during the presidential election," Sodnomtseren said. "All 1,983 polling stations are equipped with cameras and the police will ensure order."

Votes will be counted automatically, but 50 percent of the ballots will be recalculated manually after the election, he added.

Three candidates are competing for the top job: Miyegombyn Enkhbold of the Mongolian People's Party, Khaltmaa Battulga of the Democratic Party (DP) and Sainkhuu Ganbaatar of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party.

The candidate who obtains an absolute majority of the vote in the first round will become the fifth president of Mongolia. If none of the candidates gets more than 50 percent, then a second round will be held within two weeks. In modern Mongolian history, a run-off has never happened.

Earlier this month, 66.8 percent of the registered 7,200 Mongolians living abroad cast ballots in early voting, said Sodnomtseren. "Sealed envelopes with the results will be opened after 10 p.m. on June 26," he added.

The Mongolian president serves a four-year term and can be re-elected only once. This year's winner will replace President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, who is with the DP and is ending his second term.
