JERUSALEM, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Errant mortars hit an open field in the Israeli-held Golan Heights on Friday afternoon, causing no injuries, Israeli military said on Saturday.

"Several projectiles fired from Syria and hit an open area in the northern Golan Heights," a military spokesman said in a statement.

The spokesman said no injury or damage had been reported, adding that forces are searching the area for remains of the projectiles.

The mortars were believed to hit Golan Heights by mistake, according to the statement.

"The errant projectiles are a result of the internal fighting in Syria," it read.

Errant fire from the six-year fighting in Syria occosionally spills over to Israel, which often retaliates with airstrikes.

Israel has repeatedly said it would not intervene in the internal fighting in Syria, but is widely believed to have been carrying out airstrikes at Syria's weapons shipments and providing medical treatment to hundreds of wounded Syrians reaching the borders.
