BEIRUT, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Visiting British security minister stressed Friday Britain's security partnership with Lebanon, said a statement issued by the British embassy in Beirut.

Minister Ben Wallace, ending his two-day visit here, said that Britain and Lebanon have a shared interest in security, stability and prosperity. He also assured commitment "to ensuring Lebanon's sovereignty."

During the visit, Wallace also met Lebanon Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouq, and other senior security chiefs.

Britain has committed 100 million U.S. dollars since 2011 to supporting Lebanese security through partnership with Lebanese security forces, the statement said.

Wallace also visited Lebanon's Hamat Air Base, and discussed British support to secure Lebanon's border with Syria by 2019. Britain will have trained around 11,000 soldiers for frontline operations across Lebanon by then.

He also discussed bilateral relations with Foreign Minister Bassil, including ongoing security cooperation, as well as recent tragic events in Britain.
