Somalia's court sentences 3 Al-Shabaab militants

MOGADISHU, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Somalia's military court on Wednesday handed out death sentence to one Al-Shabaab militant and life term imprisonment to two others for their role in the murder of a religious scholar in Baidoa town, administrative capital of southwest state in Somalia, officials said.

Military Court Chairperson, Col. Hassan Ali Nur said the court sentenced death to Mohamed Aden Ali who shot dead a Sheikh Mohamed Madeer inside a mosque a week earlier.

"The court found three Al-Shabaab militants guilty of killing Madeer, a religious scholar inside a mosque in Baidoa town on June 16, the court sentenced Mohamed Aden Ali to death," Nur said.

He said that the court sentenced to two other Al-Shabaab militants who assisted the assassin to perpetrate the crime to life term sentences.

Southwest regional State forces arrested these militants after the murder of the man there in Baidoa town.

Military court judgments are taking place despite deadly attacks by Al-Shabaab militants who have been increased deadly attacks on the government and African Union bases including social places.
