China's higher education institutes urged to foster socialist core values

BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- China's higher education institutes have been urged to better promote Marxism theory and cultivate socialist core values.

Higher education institutes should become the main force in developing philosophy and social sciences and push forward innovation, said Minister of Education Chen Baosheng on Wednesday.

Last month, the Communist Party of China Central Committee issued a guideline on sinicization, modernization and popularization of Marxism, and vowed to develop theories that fit the 21st century and contemporary China.

Marxism will remain the guiding theory in philosophy and social sciences in China, according to the guideline.
