BRASILIA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's police department said they have evidence of President Michel Temer receiving bribes, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) said on Tuesday.
The STF disclosed a report by the police pointing to corruption by Temer and his former special adviser Rodrigo Rocha Loures.
"Given the silence of the nation's top leader and of his former special adviser, the evidence coming from the set of documents compiled by the judicial process ... indicates, strongly, the practice of passive corruption," the police report said.
The investigation of Temer is based on testimony from suspects in a meat-packing scandal, who have admitted their company, JBS, paid government officials, including Temer, to overlook their violations of health and safety standards.
In a recording revealed last month by JBS executive Joesley Batista, Temer can seemingly be heard agreeing to bribe judges, prosecutors and former House Speaker Eduardo Cunha during the Car Wash probe.
Temer turned into power one year ago after former President Dilma Rousseff was removed from office for breaking fiscal laws. He has denied any wrongdoing and refused to resign.
