KIEV, June 20 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of modern Chinese art named "Masterpieces made by prominent Chinese artists" has recently kicked off in Kiev to boost Chinese-Ukrainian cultural ties.

The exhibition features 35 pieces of art made by two well-known artists from China's eastern Jiangsu Province -- You Yaoming, curator of the Wuxi Greenwave Art Gallery, and Yin Xianming, a member of the Chinese Artists' Association.

Both artists have worked for decades to popularize Chinese art abroad. For their outstanding contribution to the development of cultural relations between China and Ukraine, in 2016, You and Yin became foreign members of Ukraine's National Academy of Arts -- the title that has been awarded to only 22 foreigners so far.

At the exhibition, Chinese artists showed local public traditional Chinese ink paintings, graphics, ceramics and sculptures depicting landscapes, animals and architecture.

While speaking with Xinhua correspondent, Yin said that he views the art show as an instrument to provide a glimpse into the Chinese history and culture to Ukrainians.

"This exhibition mainly presents my latest works. This art series is entitled "The styles of the Han Dynasty". This time I brought 5 sculptures and 15 paintings to the exposition," Yin said.

The two-week exposition, which was jointly organized by Ukraine's National Academy of Arts and the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, was attended by dozens of local artists during its opening day.

Andrey Chebykin, the head of Ukraine' s National Academy of Arts, has described the show as a platform to promote cultural exchanges between China and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, You said that Chinese-Ukrainian cultural ties have witnessed a rapid development in the recent years, which is evidenced by frequent artistic exchanges.

"More than 50 Ukrainian honored artists have visited China in the recent time. It is very important that those artists have depicted Chinese real life and customs in their works and showed Ukraine the development of China and stories from its past," You said.
