ULAN BATOR, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj has congratulated a Mongolian baritone via Twitter for winning the Song Prize Trophy at the prestigious BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.

Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar, 29, won the Song Prize Trophy together with Scotland's Catriona Morrison on Saturday at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017.

Having joint winners of the Song Prize is an unusual event for the BBC stage.

Ganbaatar, winner of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition and laureate of the Chinggis Khaan Order of Mongolia, closed the Song Prize finals by singing the famous "The Steppes of Mongolia" by Sharav, a renowned Mongolian composer.

The BBC Singer of the World competition, the launch pad for many operatic careers, is held every two years.
