VIENTIANE, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Laos is to select two best male U18 table tennis players to join the national team for the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia this August, according to the Lao Table Tennis Federation on Monday.

The federation expects their U18 and U15 juniors will be all the better for the experience following the ASEAN Junior Table Tennis Championship in Singapore from June 13-17, where its one male U18 and two U15 female players were unsuccessful in their medal quest but in mixed doubles Laos was able to pass the first round.

The best juniors will join the national team for training in Lao capital Vientiane next month in the lead up to the SEA Games.

The Lao national team will send four male players to compete in team, doubles and singles events at the games in Malaysia.

"We are satisfied with the U18 and U15 players' effort at the championship in Singapore but our team will find it very difficult to win medals at the SEA Games in Malaysia," Secretary of the Lao Table Tennis Federation Somchay Vongsa was quoted by Lao state-run media Vientiane Times as saying.

While both male and female U15 and U18 juniors prepared for two years prior to the championship in Singapore, Laos was not ready to send its women's team to the SEA Games in Malaysia, she said.

Lao juniors will also not attend the ASEAN Schools Games in Singapore next month because the federation lacks funding to support them. Last year, they attended the ASEAN Schools Games in Thailand.

Laos previously hosted the ASEAN Junior Table Tennis Championship in 2007 where the home team won a bronze medal.
