PARIS, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Final results released by French interior ministry on Monday confirmed that President Emmanuel Macron's The Republic on the Move party (LREM) won a landslide majority in the National Assembly.
Of the 577 elected lawmakers, 308 were from the centrist LREM movement, making it France's new ruling party for the next five years.
With its centre-right MoDem ally, the LREM won 350 seats, outpacing the 289 seats needed to have a strong say in the lower house of parliament to implement president's economic and social roadmap.
The two traditional major parties, which alternated power over past decades, lost their bet to form a strong opposition.
113 candidates under the banner of The Republicans won their race while the outgoing governing the Socialist Party won 29 seats, forcing its chief Jean-Christophe Cambadelis to step down.
Marine Le Pen, leader of far-right National Party, made her entry to the National Assembly along with seven other far-rightists.
As to contenders representing far-left "France Unbowed" party, 17 gained the legislative contest.
57.36 percent of more than 47 million voters abstained on Sunday's runoff, a record high of abstention rate for a parliamentary ballot in Fifth Republic, the ministry's figures showed.
