ANKARA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- An 1,600-year-old mosaic picture has been found in southeastern Turkish province of Adiyaman, local media reported on Monday.

Two farmer brothers discovered the mosaic picture in Adiyaman's Golbasi district, while they were working in their field.

They immediately informed authorities about their finding, after which local museum officials and archaeologists arrived at the site to inspect the mosaic.

After inspection, archeologists found that the mosaic picture, which features Ancient Roman characteristics, could date back to the fourth century.

As one of the most historical provinces, Adiyaman was inhabited by several ancient civilizations, including Assyrians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans and Byzantines.

Mosaic was a popular art form of decoration in ancient Greece and Rome. Many well-kept mosaic artworks have been found in Turkey.
