ISLAMABAD, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Two officials of the Pakistani Consulate in Afghanistan's eastern Jalalabad city have gone missing, Pakistani and Afghan officials said late Saturday.
The officials were traveling to Pakistan by road on Friday, but failed to reach Torkham crossing post between the two countries, officials said.
"Pakistani authorities in Afghanistan have formally informed the concerned Afghan officials about the incident and sought their help in safe recovery of the missing officials," a Pakistani official told Xinhua.
Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal has confirmed the incident. "Yes, I am aware of it and so are our relevant institutions. They are searching for the missing officials," Zakhilwal told Xinhua.
The incident occurred nearly a month after Pakistan said Afghan security officials had detained two staffers of the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul.
