8 Ethiopians still missing in Grenfell Tower fire accident: embassy

ADDIS ABABA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Embassy in London confirmed on Saturday that Ethiopian origin British nationals have been directly impacted by the Grenfell Tower fire accident, of whom eight are still missing.

"Together with the Diaspora community, we are doing what we can to comfort the families who are in great grief. We will continue to comfort the families at this difficult time," said Hailemichael Aberra, Ambassador of Ethiopia in London on Saturday.

The ambassador appearing on BBC on Saturday affirmed that the Ethiopian embassy in London together with the Ethiopian community across the United Kingdom is providing support to the families affected by the tragic incident.

The Ethiopian Embassy in London had earlier announced that it has organized a committee to respond to families and individuals of Ethiopian origin who have been directly impacted by the tragic event.

According to the embassy, among the eight missing Ethiopian origin British nationals include a mother and son; another five-year old boy; husband and wife with their three children.

The London Metropolitan Police has on Saturday announced that the bodies of 16 people have been uncovered from the building, while the figure of people still missing may rise.
