NAIROBI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- At least four people have been confirmed dead and 11 others injured after a public service vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) on Friday in Mandera county that borders Somalia, an official said.

Northeastern regional coordinator Mohamed Saleh said the incident took place along the restive Lafey-Elwak road.

"We have discouraged vehicles from using the route because it's close to the border and dangerous. No arrest has been made," Saleh said by telephone.

The latest incident came amid increased attacks by the Al-Shabaab militants hailing from neighboring Somalia.

The East African nation shares a porous border with Somalia and the country has been subjected to frequent attacks by Al-Shabaab following the onslaught by Kenyan soldiers on the militant group in Somalia.
